If a user unsubscribe, and get the status of being unsubscribe, if they try to subscribe again using the forms on the site there will only be a text saying "registration failed" due to their email still being in the system. Is there a way to let the user sign up again using the forms? Or as an alternative if the subscriber unsubscribe their account gets deleted automatically from the system?

yes, you can activate Repeated Subscription option in Subscription > Settings.

In all my tests with unsubscribed users, these subscriptions failed with the Admin message: "Subscriber blocked since unsubscribed. Contact the site administrator." People do not even see this message, so most likely they just leave it at that. I have double opt-in enabled and double subscriptions allowed.
The setting does however work for users who are subscribed at the moment.
But this is not how it's supposed to work, is it?

there has been a misunderstood with my first reply, I apologize for that. Repeated subscriptions refers to already subscribed users. If someone unsubscribes, the only way they can resubscribe is through the resubscribe link (which may be put in the goodbye email, see our documentation) or by manually deleting them from subscribers list.

thanks for your quick answer. That's very unfortunate. I had this about 5 times now even with my very few (~500) subscribers. I operate an audio studio. People are interested because they are recording with me, then they just want to take a break from subscriptions when they are finished. But then they come back a year later and they just can't subscribe, unless I deleted them manually from my subscriber list. No one keeps a reactivate link that's displayed once on the goodbye screen, and goodbye emails are discouraged - and let's be honest, no one would keep goodbye emails, even if they were sent.
I myself subscribe do different services on and off depending on my current interests and needs.
Is there a way to automatically delete subscribers when they unsubscribe? Or is there at least a way to modify the displayed error message, which displays no reason or hint or link at all?

there were technical reasons behind this process but I totally get your point (I also saw your feedback on our wordpress.org page). We'll be working to improve this.
