    Hi,

I wonder if there is a way to use something like “anchors” in a newsletter.
I would like to have the possibility to have like an index at the top of the newsletter, that would allow users, to jump directly to specific parts (blocks) of my newsletter.

    Many thanks in advance
    Oliver

    Hello,

no, that’s not possible within email design.

    Hi Michael,

    Thank you for your reply.
I understand, that a true index is not possible.
But I would be happy to use links that point to html-anchors.
I understand that the newsletter is HTML, so that’s why I was hoping, this would work.

    Best regards
    Oliver

    Hello Oliver,

this is the current compatibility of html anchors in email design: https://www.caniemail.com/search/?s=anchors. As you can see, they’re extremely unreliable, so we won’t add this to Newsletter.

    HI Michael,

I am coming back on this subject as it keeps coming up with my clients.
Is there any chance in the near future, to have an “Index”-feature that would allow me, to have an index at the top of the newsletter, teasering the different items in the newsletter, with a direct link to the line where that item starts.

I understand, that anchors don’t work, but would there be any other possibility?

    Best regards
    Oliver

    Hello Oliver,

about anchors: please re-read my last message, that’s the updated compatibility chart of local anchors in email design. As you can see, one out of two email clients won’t render that correctly.

I don’t think there would be any workarounds for this, or alternatives. My personal opinion, if I can, is that indexes in a newsletter simply don’t make much sense. A newsletter itself can be see as an “index”, where you introduce a summary of your topics and send people to the full post through links. There are also some longer newsletters which have their public, but generally speaking, only a few people are interested enough to read long paragraphs on emails.

Hopes this makes sense to you,
    Michael

    Hi Michael,

I saw your last posting. And I agree about the html-anchors.
And yes – your point about newsletters beeing an index by themselve is absolutely correct.

Maybe we will simply have an index at the top saying:
this newsletter is about the subjects:
    – subject 1
    – subject 2
    – subject 3
but without links. I am fine with that.
Thanks for your time and reply.

    Best regards
    Oliver

    Hello Oliver,

no problems at all. I think your solution would be the best possible one to come close to what you had in mind. Let me know if I can be of further help.
