Cannot install any extensions "Error while installing"

I’ve just paid up for a blogger account so that I can add some extensions (specifically the WP-User Integration and Sparkpost ones). However, when I try to install them I get the not very helpful error “Error while installing” message.

I suspect a permission problem on my WordPress install but is there:

1. a way to install the extensions manually
2. a way to find out what the error actually is (perhaps a debug file ?) so that I can hopefully fix it ?
